What Is Tourette Syndrome?

Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a neurological condition that causes unwanted, involuntary muscle movements and sounds known as tics.  These tics can be as simple as blinking of the eyes or complex and involving multiple muscles at one time.  There is no known cure, but there are a variety of medications and treatments that are used to help manage tics.

In order for someone to be diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome, they must display both vocal and motor tics for a year or more.  These tics can be simple or complex, but must be present for a year or more in order for a true TS diagnosis.
